![]() ![]() The Superstition Saloon doesn't take reservations, and during the tourist season or on weekends, be prepared to wait a half-hour or more for a table. ![]() Whichever you choose, be sure you are well-stocked with one of their giant Mason jar drinks of your choice before you dig in, because you are going to need it! While not special or overly outstanding, it's a great place to stop on the way to or from Lake Roosevelt or a unique place to take family or visitors from out of town.In keeping with its name and location, the menu runs heavily to the Southwestern flavor, with the house specialty being their famous "Killer Chili," touted on the menu as, "the chili your Mama warned you about!" It comes either in a bowl, with a flour tortilla on the side, for $5.00, or as the "Boule of Fire," a hollowed-out, round loaf of bread, filled with Killer Chili, surrounded by tortilla chips, and topped with cheese, sour cream and peppers, for $7.35. Some areas are three or four layers thick. The waiter told me they estimate there is nearly $200,000 in currency stapled to the walls. The neat thing is the bar's character from the saddle seated bar stools, carved horse's rear end bar stools, to the thousand's of dollar bills and other world currencies, stapled to every vertical surface. It came in a basket, 8 oz of grilled chicken breast on a bun, with all the trimmings including green chillies, jalapeƱos on request and french fries. I had the a grilled chicken sandwich called the Grand Peep (or something close to that). The menu is a bar food menu, but the portion sizes were good, food was tasty, and the service was great. Once you are there, it's a neat old tourist trap from the early 1900's granted it was rebuilt in 1987 after a devastating fire destroyed the original place. ![]() I believe the speed limit drops down to 25 mph for at least 10 miles of that road and there are a couple of one lane bridges, so don't be in a hurry to get there. Once outside of Apache Junction, Arizona the drive is slow and windy. Saw a news story about this place this past Sunday and we just had to go. ![]()
